About TacTac

We are building the GPS that license-free car drivers should have had from day one.

Our mission

In France, 1.2 million people drive a license-free car every day. Seniors, teenagers from age 14, people whose licence is suspended, or simply those who prefer gentle, accessible mobility, all share the same problem: the navigation tools that exist are not built for them.

TacTac grew out of one simple conviction: every driver deserves a GPS that understands their reality. Not a general-purpose GPS hastily adapted, but a tool designed from scratch for license-free cars, with their constraints, their roads and their speed.

The problem we solve

Waze and Google Maps were designed for vehicles travelling at 90, 110, 130 km/h. They ignore two fundamental realities of license-free cars:

  • · License-free cars are capped at 45 km/h and banned from motorways, expressways and roads limited to more than 70 km/h.
  • · The travel times worked out by standard GPS apps (based on 90-130 km/h) are completely unusable for planning a trip in a license-free car.
  • · A routing mistake is not just a detour, it can send you onto a road where the license-free car is legally banned, with a fine of 1,500 €.

TacTac automatically filters out these roads and works out realistic ETAs at 45 km/h. You arrive on time, on roads you are allowed to use, without stress.

The team

TacTac is built by a team of 3 developers and gentle-mobility enthusiasts, convinced that accessible mobility deserves professional-grade tools.

We are not a big car group. We are a small team that chose to focus on one precise problem and solve it really well. Our tech stack is modern, the Valhalla routing engine, OpenStreetMap data, real-time community alerts, because license-free car drivers deserve the same quality as any other GPS user.

Our values

Safety first

Every design and routing decision is guided by a single question: does this make driving safer for the license-free car driver? No shortcuts, no compromise on banned roads.

Simplicity

A GPS has to be usable while driving, at a glance. No complex menus, no needless features. TacTac does one thing, guide you safely, and does it well.

Accessibility

Our users are 14 or 82 years old. Some are discovering smartphones. The TacTac interface has to work for everyone, with no instruction manual.
