Why Waze does not work for license-free cars
Waze, Google Maps and Apple Maps were built for vehicles driving at 90 to 130 km/h. For a license-free car capped at 45 km/h, using them can be dangerous and costly.

The concrete risks
Using Waze or Google Maps with a license-free car is not just inaccurate, it is potentially dangerous.
Fine up to 1,500 €
Being routed onto an expressway or a motorway with your license-free car is an offence. The fine can reach 1,500 € if you are checked.
Misleading ETA
The "45 minutes" shown by Waze becomes 1h30 in reality. The ETA is worked out at 90 km/h while you drive at 45 km/h.
Dangerous situation
Entering a motorway by mistake with a license-free car capped at 45 km/h, facing traffic running at 130 km/h, is a real danger for you and for other road users.
What TacTac does differently
TacTac was designed specifically for license-free car drivers, not adapted from a standard car GPS. It is the only dedicated license-free car GPS available in France. Read our complete guide to license-free cars to go further.
Automatic filtering of motorways and expressways
Every road banned for L6e light quadricycles is excluded automatically. No manual setting, no checkbox. TacTac knows what is allowed for your license-free car.
ETA based on a real 40 km/h average
The arrival time shown is based on the real speed of a license-free car in normal conditions. You know exactly when you will arrive.
Voice guidance suited to license-free cars
Clear, anticipated voice instructions, calibrated for driving at 45 km/h. Every turn is announced at the right moment for your speed.
Frequently asked questions
Can Waze be set to avoid the motorway?
Yes, Waze lets you avoid motorways in its preferences. But this option does not handle every expressway or the ring roads banned to license-free cars, and it does not take into account your vehicle's 45 km/h limit. The ETA is still worked out at 90 km/h.
Does Google Maps have a license-free car mode?
No. No mainstream GPS (neither Waze, nor Google Maps, nor Apple Maps) offers a mode dedicated to license-free cars. These apps do not know the traffic restrictions specific to L6e light quadricycles.
Is TacTac free?
TacTac works on a freemium model. Basic navigation is free. The Premium features (offline maps, full voice guidance) are included free for 1 month when you sign up on the waiting list.
